Chelsea F.C. ~ José Pralineho

Introduction: (I know, I know, but he was influential) José Mourinho is a Portuguese football manager and former football player, who was the manager of Chelsea. He first moved to moved to there in 2004 and won the Premier League title with a record 95 points (the club’s first league title in 50 years) and the League Cup in his first season. In his second year Chelsea retained the Premier League and in 2006–07 he took the club to an FA Cup and League Cup double, though they finished as league runners-up. Mourinho left Chelsea in September 2007, amidst reports of a rift with club owner Roman Abramovich.

Mourinho has also been a part of social initiatives and charity work, helping with a youth project, bringing Israeli and Palestinian children together through football and donating his “lucky” jacket to Tsunami Relief, earning £22,000 for the charity.

José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, is the special one and this is a special simple sweet. This tastes even better if you make it the day before and leave it over night.

Preparation time: 20 mins

Cooking time: 5 mins, cooling time at least 1 hour

Home kit: Large bowl and large saucepan

Away kit: Large serving plate

Serves: Some

Ingredients

  • 100g butter
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp. golden syrup
  • 50g sultanas
  • 200g crushed Rich tea biscuits (I love Rich Tea biscuits)
  • 150g chocolate (for topping)

Method:

First half

Put some water into the large saucepan and the bowl on top, bring the water to a simmer. Melt butter, sugar, cocoa powder and syrup in the warming large bowl. Add the crushed biscuits and sultanas and stir well. Spread mixture onto a baking sheet so it is about 1.5cm thick. Allow to cool 15 mins.

Second half

Melt the topping chocolate in the warmed bowl and spread over top of the first mixture. Allow to cool 45 mins.

Full time results

Cut into small (3cm) squares, stick on the serving plate. Eat.

Chelsea F.C. ~ Greenaway salad

Introduction: Named after the larger than life Micky Greenaway, who is rumoured to have introduced the somewhat unsavoury celery song to The Shed.

Preparation time: 5 mins

Cooking time: 0 mins (It’s a salad!)

Home kit: Nothing

Away kit: Salad bowl

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 tbls. olive oil
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • A granny Smith, cored and cut into bite sized chunks
  • 2 sticks of celery, cut into bite sized chunks
  • ½ a chopped red onion

Method: Pre heat the oven to 0oC (It’s a salad!)

Stick everything in a bowl, mix and serve.

Chelsea F.C. ~ Ruud Pullet with Gianfranco Gorgonzola

Introduction: OK, there are a lot of ingredients but this is an easy, swift recipe which can be attempted post match if you’ve sunk less than six pints.

Ruud Gullit ~ was born Ruud Dil in Amsterdam. Gullit’s brilliance prompted George Best to comment in 1990, “Ruud Gullit is a great player by any standards. He has all the skills. He’s not afraid to do things with the ball. And he looks as if he’s enjoying every second of it.

Gianfranco Zola, OBE ~ joined Chelsea in 1996, he was voted the Football Writers’ Player of the Year in the 1996–97 season. In 2003 he was voted Chelsea’s greatest player ever. He was capped 35 times for Italy from his debut in 1991, appearing at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and Euro 96.

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cooking time: 20 mins

Home kit: Large saucepan, large frying pan, large plate and a colander.

Away kit: 4-6 serving plates, knives and forks

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 3 skinless chicken breast fillets, cut into ½ inch slices
  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 200g button mushrooms, quartered
  • 300ml whipping cream
  • 150g crumbled Gorgonzola cheese (actually, any blue cheese will do but it’s not as funny)
  • Some grated Parmesan cheese
  • Some fresh Italian (flat-leaf) parsley
  • 200g dried pasta

Method:

First half

Boil a lot of water in the large saucepan and lob in the pasta. After 10 mins pour into a colander and set aside. This will not quite cook the pasta but it will become al dente once it is combined with the Ruud Pullet and sauce later. I like to use Conchiglie but any will do.

While the pasta is cooking, season the chicken breasts to taste with the salt and pepper, not too much salt as there is plenty in the Gianfranco. Fry the chicken in the olive oil over a medium heat until it takes on a golden brown colour, remove and set aside. I would do this in a couple of batches, too much meat in the pan and it streams rather than fries.

Second half

Now put the mushrooms in the same frying pan and cook for 5 minutes until they are soft and release a lot of their liquid. Return the chicken to the pan and add the cream, bring to almost a boil and simmer for 2 minutes. Add half the Gianfranco and all the parmesan and a little more pepper and cook a little longer to melt the cheeses.

Full time results

Now combine the Ruud Pullet with the pasta and crumble the remaining gorgonzola and parsley over the top for decoration. Serve with Greenaway salad.

Introduction: Known as Ossie, the King of Stamford Bridge. Peter Leslie Osgood (20th February 1947 – 1 March 2006) was an English footballer who was particularly active during the 1960s and 1970s. He was signed by Chelsea and debuted for them on the 16th December 1964. He played for Chelsea 279 times scoring 103 goals , and was also capped four times by England in the early 1970s, it should have been more but his “playboy” lifestyle was unpalatable to Alf Ramsey.

Preparation time: 2 mins

Cooking time: 10 mins

Home kit: Tin foil

Away kit: 1 large plate and napkins (who am I kidding? Forget the napkins)

Serves: Kickball team

Ingredients

  • 6 large pitta breads
  • 300g tub of humus

Method: Preheat the oven to 120oC

First half

Wrap the pitta bread in foil and bung in the oven for 10 mins. Now slice them into soldiers and make a crown like arrangement around the edge of the large plate.

Second half

Stick the tub of hummus in the middle of the plate.

Full time result

Stick it in front of your guests while you knock up the Ruud Pullet and Gianfranco Gorgonzola.
